This building used to be one of the biggest and most successful café bars of my hometown until recently. It is located at the center of Heraklion (Crete-Hellas) and prior being a café it was a private School which was named after a very important Greek scholar (Αδαμάντιος ΚΟΡΑΗΣ – Adamantios KORAIS). That particular intellectual, mainly a philologist, was responsible for the transplant of the (North) European Renaissance values to the newly born modern Hellenic state during early and mid 19th century. He managed to organize that even though he never traveled to his native country (via mail). As I mentioned earlier, after the collapse of the private school business the building was turned into a café-bar and the owners of the late business retained the same brand name in this case not ΚΟΡΑΗΣ (KORAIS) School but café-ΚΟΡΑΗΣ (KORAIS).
